Château de Castelnaud

Perched on a hillside on a rocky outcrop at the confluence of the Dordogne and Céou rivers, the 12th-century Château de Castelnaud-La-Chapelle dominates the small village nestled at its feet. This fortified castle stands proudly opposite that of Beynac, its rival in the Middle Ages, with the Dordogne River symbolizing the border between the two enemy kingdoms. The Château de Beynac on the French side stood opposite the English fortress of Castelnaud… The scene takes on its full meaning when viewed from the sky!
